Mega Burger

Some times there’s only one thing that will hit the spot… A mega burger, with 2 home made patties and all the works!

INGREDIENTS

500g good quality beef or pork mince
I brioche burger bun, cut and toasted
2 slices of gruyere cheese
2 hands full of oven chips
1 small red onion, finely chopped
2 tsp Proper Tomato Sauce
1 large tomato, sliced
1 or 2 large pickled gherkins, chopped
a few lettuce leaves

PREPARATION METHOD

Mix the Beef or Pork mince using your hands, gently mix together with the salt and pepper. Handle the meat as little as possible, a loose texture makes for a succulent burger.

Firstly, cook your chips, shop bought oven chips are fine for this. It's better to spend your time eating not cooking!

Shape the meat into 2 patties, just over a centimetre thick.

Place burgers on the grill, into a heavy pan or BBQ and cook for three minutes each side. After the first three minutes flip the burger over and add the cheese to the cooked side of the burger. The cheese will melt as the remaining side of the burger cooks. Let them rest whilst you toast the bun.

Now assemble. We like to start from the base up. A good dollop of Proper Tomato Sauce followed by your onions, then the first pattie. Middle layer, plenty of tomatoes, a few chips and the sliced gurkins, remember to season with salt and pepper as you go. For the top layer, add your cheesy pattie, your lettuce, lots more chips and a final dollop of sauce. Job done.
